TELL CITY PLANNERS: No Residential Development Without Walker's Cafe

The Time Is Now for This Crucial Ask

Dear Friends of Walker’s Cafe,

At Monday’s meeting, the Coastal Neighborhood Council voted to support the developer’s plans.

Unfortunately, they did not attach the crucial conditions that are necessary for Walker’s Cafe to survive.

Contrary to repeated misinformation being circulated online, that does not — and has never meant — “stopping the developer from doing anything onsite.”

It does mean:

1) A smaller footprint for the house so the cafe has enough space.

2) An official guarantee that the cafe will be reopened (called a “Q condition” in planning jargon).

Without those conditions, Walker’s Cafe will never reopen.

We were disappointed to see the Neighborhood Council ignore the recommendation of its own Planning Committee and fail to include these conditions, which were voiced by many community members in public comment. But it’s not too late to get this right at the City Planning level!
