Victory at the Second Landmarking Hearing + New Owner for Walker's Cafe
Dear friends of Walker’s Cafe,
Thanks so much for joining the more than 2,800 people who have signed the petition urging the city to save Walker’s Cafe for future generations.
It’s been an eventful month for Walker’s! At the second Cultural Heritage Commission hearing on March 17th, the Commission unanimously voted to have Walker’s designated a Historic-Cultural Monument in the City of Los Angeles. Walker’s isn’t a landmark yet, but it’s almost there. The next step is the Planning and Land Use Management committee hearing. We will let you know as soon as we get a date!
If you missed the hearing on March 17th and want to catch up on what happened, a recording is available on YouTube here. We are so grateful to everyone who called in and sent letters of support. Together we are fighting to make sure Walker’s is a part of our future!
And there’s more news: Walker’s has new owners! Prospect Group has acquired the property, as their Silva Harapetian told Random Lengths News. They will be looking to lease it out to a restaurateur. Make sure to read the article for more information. We are hopeful that this means Walker’s is on its way to reopening its doors. Stay tuned!
Finally, following the win at the second landmarking hearing, Walker’s got some love from LAist, KPCC radio and the Daily Breeze.
